An adaptive spike-timing-dependent plasticity rule

چکیده
We examine the conditions under which spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) normalizes post-synaptic 0ring rates. Our simulations show that the rate normalization property of STDP is fragile and small changes in the LTD=LTP ratio or pre-synaptic input rates can lead to high 0ring rates. We propose an adaptive scheme to dynamically control the LTP=LTD ratio. The biophysics of synapses lead us to suggest a control mechanism using action potential-induced calcium in4ux, a known mediator of synaptic plasticity. This adaptive STDP rule is shown to stabilize the post-synaptic 0ring rates under a variety of perturbations. c © 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

متن کاملTheoretical Analysis of Learning with Reward-Modulated Spike-Timing-Dependent Plasticity
Reward-modulated spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) has recently emerged as a candidate for a learning rule that could explain how local learning rules at single synapses support behaviorally relevant adaptive changes in complex networks of spiking neurons. However the potential and limitations of this learning rule could so far only be tested through computer simulations. This article pr...
متن کاملA general error-based spike-timing dependent learning rule for the Neural Engineering Framework
Previous attempts at integrating spike-timing dependent plasticity rules in the NEF have met with little success. This project proposes a spike-timing dependent plasticity rule that uses local information to learn transformations between populations of neurons. The rule is implemented and tested on a simple one-dimensional communication channel, and is compared to a similar rate-based learning ...
